Moving a family around the world offers innumerable
challenges, and perhaps the most anxiety provoking is
finding the right school overseas for the kids. Not every
child in the family has the same needs, either….one
may be in the last years of high school, one may have
learning differences, and one may be extremely gifted
and hungry for more challenge.
It is important to “know before you go,” especially if you have a
child with learning disabilities. Rebecca Grappo has years of
experience helping families in the U.S. Department of State
make informed decisions regarding their children’s education
both at home and abroad.
Below are just a few of the many important questions that
parents should ask before going overseas with their child(ren).
 | | Will my child be accepted at the school, and on what |
| | criteria is admissions based?
|
 | | Is there a place for my child in the school of my choice, or |
| | is there a waiting list?
|
 | | Is there a choice of schools, or must I accept the only |
| | option in town?
|
 | | Is there an appropriate peer group for my child/children, |
| | and will they be able to participate in extra-curricular activities?
|
 | | How big is the school?
|
 | | Will my child graduate from this school, and if so will |
| | he/she have the academic opportunities they need in order to be ready for the college admissions process?

We think of issues, based on years of experience, that would
never occur to a parent who hasn't faced the same situation.
One of the most important services we can offer is to put all of
the available information into perspective, specifically with your
child in mind, as you think through these important decisions.

With years of
experience working
with internationally
mobile families, we
listen and analyze the
entire scenario.
"I don't know if your ears
have been burning in recent
weeks, but they should be,
for I have sung your praises
to many and various friends
and acquaintances for the
invaluable assistance you
provided us in locating good
schools for (my children)."
